What we believe

20 Oct

I have been blogging for ages and have only just realised that I have never really stated what we believe as a family… So here goes (I have also added it under the Who are we page). Please note that this is what we believe and it is in no way meant to push anyone away or judge anyone:

We believe in the triune God of the Bible, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe the Word of God is the highest authority and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. (2 Tim 3:16)

We believe that salvation through Jesus’s death and resurrection is the only way to salvation. (John 14:6)

We believe that man and woman were created in God’s image and likeness. (Gen 1:27)

We believe that the closest example to Christ’s love for us, is godly marriage, between a husband and wife. (Eph 5:22-33)

We believe that the husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church, even giving up his life for her. (Eph 5:25-33)

We believe that the wife is to submit to the husband in everything just as the church submits to Christ. This does not mean she is his doormat, but that she knows he has her best interests at heart, and is the God-appointed head of the home. (Eph 5:22-24)

We believe that we are to be witnesses to the world of God’s grace, mercy and salvation, and in our daily lives we are to reflect Him so that all may come to know Him. (1 Peter 2:12)

We believe that our bodies are holy temples and therefore we are to look after them and not soil them with ungodly practices and bad habits. (1 Cor 6:19-20)

We believe that the husband’s role is to provide, protect and lead the family. (Eph 5:25-33)

We believe the wife’s role is to be a helper and companion to her husband, and to be a homemaker and raise her children in the ways of the Lord. (Gen 2:18; Titus 2:3-4)

We believe that children are a gift from God but that they belong to Him and not to us. (Psalm 127:3-5)

We believe that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him and follow His way. (Rom 8:28)

We believe that baptism is an outward sign of an inward change and conversion to follow the Lord, therefore we believe in the baptism of believers and not that of infants. (Rom 6:3-5; Matt 28:19)

One Response to “What we believe”

We believe that we are saved by grace and not by anything that we could do, since we are unable to do what is required for it – that which Jesus accomplished on the cross. Because of this grace we can be in a restored relationship with God, co-heirs with Jesus, in-dwelt with the Holy Spirit and desiring to do good works so that God’s kindgom can be extended on the earth until the return of Jesus. (Ephesians 2:8, 1 Peter 3:18, 1 Peter 1:3, John 1:12, Ephesians 4:12)
